Son of William Henry Black, Agent, and of Agnes Elizabeth of 18 Abbotsford Road, Cotham. Younger brother of Geoffrey Heslop, and older brother of Mary Henrietta and Edith Hulford

 

Black  was born on 21/10/1897, and attended the School from 1905-1909. He served as a Flight Lieutenant in the RAF, with the Royal Naval Air Service 9th Sqdn.. Black  sadly lost his life on 12/10/1917, as a result of the War.

 

Black died of wounds received on 11/10/1917 in a Sopworth Camel F.1. No. N6358. It is believed that aircraft lost formation, and Black was shot down by three enemy aircraft near Zarren. He is buried in Larch Wood (Railway Cutting) Cemetery, Belgium, grave reference I.B.17.

The Chronicle Reports Him Miss (December 1917, and April 1918)

"is officially reported missing. He was only a short time at the School, and went to Christ's Hospital afterwards, where he was prominent as an athlete. He obtained a commission in R.N.A.S." - December 1917
