Holdsworth, Wesley Cope

Son of Rev Joseph Foster Holdsworth, Welyan Minister, and Jane Holdsworth, of 52 Rye Hill, Newcastle-on-Tyne, 19 Freemantle Square. Younger brother of Benjamin and Joseph Arthur, both of whom served.

Holdsworth was born on 02/09/1897, and attended the School from 1905-1907. He served as a Surgeon Probationer in the Navy, with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, H.M.S. "Begonia" . Holdsworth sadly lost his life on 06/10/1917, as a result of the War.

 

Holdsworth is remembered on Portsmouth Naval Memorial, Britain, Panel 28.

Feared to be Drowned (BGS Chronicle April 1918)

"has been reported missing, and is feared to be drowned. He was a brother of B.G. and J.A. Holdsworth, and was acting as Surgeon-Probationer on a Mine-sweeper which was sunk."
