Order of St Anne

Nationality of award: Russian

 

Founded: 14th February 1735 by Karl Friedrich, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp in honour of his wife, Anne Petrovna, daughter of Peter the Great of Russia.

Information: The Order of St Anne was a Holstein ducal, and later a Russian Imperial Order of Chivalry. The motto of the Order was "Amantibus Justitiam, Pietatem, Fidem" ("To those who love justice, piety, and fidelity"). Membership was awarded for distinguished actions in the civil service, or for valour and service in the military. It comprises four classes: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th. It entitles recipients of the First Class to hereditary nobility, and recipients of the lower classes to personal nobility.
